About the HNMS Library
Library Media Committee
The new state law HB 1467 requires that school libraries must have a Library Media Committee (LMC) to gather input from stakeholders for developing the library media collection. The minutes of the LMC meetings should be posted on the school's website. Below are links to the book lists evaluated by the LMC, the members of the committee during each meeting, and the results of the evaluation. Activities
Our library is open each morning before school at 8:40, all during the school day, and on Tuesday afternoons from 3:40 - 4:45. Throughout the school year we host fall and spring book fairs, science fair, club meetings, and many other special school activities. For more information on activities in the library, click here.
Services
Our library offers a large variety of engaging books for check out, a teacher resource library, before and after school access, a year-long reading challenge, laptop computers for student in-school use, a variety of board games and puzzles, school meeting space, and a certified school library media specialist to help students, parents, and staff with all things library.
Library Reading Challenge
Every year, the library holds a reading challenge to encourage students to read more and discover a love of reading. To encourage the to read more books and more challenging books, those students who read at least 10 books from the attached list will be invited to a spectacular end-of-year field trip to CiCi's Pizza and Books-a-Million in Mary Esther. They will get all the pizza they can eat at CiCi's and will shop for books of their choice at BAM, choosing $20 worth of books if they read 10 list books and $30 worth of books if they read 15 list books.
Please note, this is not exactly the same as the quarterly required reading in the ELA classes, but many of the books allowed for ELA classes will count for the library challenge as long as they pass the book quiz available in the library for their chosen books.

What's Coming Up
Book Fair is coming to the library Sept. 30 - Oct. 6. Family night is Tuesday, Oct. 4th from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Come see the great books we'll have at the fair and take some home for your bookshelf. The Book Fair helps the library raise money for activities, equipment, supplies, and more. We appreciate your support.
